A “BRAND NEW” REVIEW

I am going to explain why I love the song, Luca by Brand New off of their album The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me…The initial feel of this album was much more dark and relaxed, but with skin shuttering peaks. Coming from listening to Deja Entendu, which was also REALLY grim, the maturity of the band as a whole shows perfectly. It has a real rustic(kinda like a classic cassette that will never get old)almost sounding product, but still mixed perfectly.

The intro of this song is initially nice and slow, the beginning eerie guitar intro scales through my skin as his voice slowly soothes any anxiety from life, leaving me in a void of Brand New. I tend to doze off when I listen to them, especially on a really nice day…they clear my mind and allow me to just relax. It is hard hitting and yet more majestic than a tiger sittin atop a mountain side.

The good stuff is still to come…the only thing I have to say about roughly 1:03-1:20, is that it will tickle places you never thought existed, so sick. The ghostly second track vocals are enough to make images appear on walls, they make everything endlessly cycle with natural energy…anticipating what will come next. The drums have a hard hitting real sound to them, really stompy almost. These are perfect drums for slamming on the steering wheel while driving might I add. There is a real soft part, the voices take over, with a still and calm tune playing like trumpets in heaven(but not really, more badass)

…………………………………………………………………….

AND THEN HOLY SHIT. IT COMES SLAMMING IN TO MY FAVORITE SOUND. THE ENDLESS CYMBAL SOUNDS FLOW LIKE THE CALMEST WATERS IN A STORM, brutal, yet enjoyable. I imagine the drummer was going balls out, which always gives a nice feel to the music. Some would say the vocals can put you in trance, and well yeah…I agree. It is heavy, yet still really chill. This song gives the option to stand around and enjoy, or to stand around and pretend like you are pushing people(which is equally enjoyable). You can really tell Jesse Lacey’s talent as a singer, harmonized yells never sounded so good. After listening to this song, I can almost guarantee you will keep on singin Where you’ve beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen”

Luca is a good as fuck song on an amazing album…it is better than a 5 pound gummy worm pretty much. Brand new will always be one of my favorite bands, they can deliver such a heavy sound that I always want playing in my brains. I rate this song 10/10 and its awesome if you agree.  Brand New is one of those bands that will never get old for me, every time I listen is like the first time. I GET GOOSEBUMPS LISTENING TO THEM.

SICK LOOKING^^^^

I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE APOCALYPSE. A DISEASE TURNING NORMAL HUMANS INTO BLOOD THIRSTY, SKIN CHEWING, MAGGOT SACKS. ONE DAY WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS FORMER KNOWLEDGE OF ZOMBS, AND ZOMB ACCESSORIES.

My brush with fate and Kingmaker.

So first of all, this is complete and utter amazement…i remember back in the day, probably around 8th grade there was a hand sign my friends and I would always do…I now realize this is sign, from the past, regarding the future…it just so happens that this exact double thunder finger placement goes with the bands sick looking crown…‎\_\__/_/although not an exact match, but so closely similar to the exact specs of the design, it kinda makes me feel like im losing my mind in their music. It makes me want to travel in time and storm the beaches of Normandy, super adrenaline fueled.

I never realized this till now…but it was fate…

The steps leading to this amazing discovery started from around sophomore year, the first time I heard Nick Clemenson play drums…I remember thinking, HOLY FUCK THIS KID IS GOOD AS SHIT as he blasted away doing disgusting phat as fuck fills and jaw dropping double bass….little did I know this long forgotten finger placement would be so closely similar to this bands little deal…again, this is another case of my mind being blown….

The reason why this is so sick is because this band is fucking HEAAAAAAAVVVVVYYYYYYY and god damn funky. All of their recordings sound slammy as shit, and I love slammy as fuck bands. The complete sound of Kingmaker is fun, and simply heavy. I can feel the mix of different influences I can imagine this band having. The first time I heard Antagonist on their facebook (http://www.facebook.com/kingmakeril) I immediately felt the effort in the music as a whole, and piece by piece brilliance. It made me want to go for a jog, and I hate running. I started to sweat from the slang-a-langin drops and SICK beats these dudes make. Its another instance that I see myself clicking replay fucking 30 times in a row because I cant have enough. It honestly sounds like a kingmaker, banishing all that stand in the way of their slam.

The vocals through all the tracks work so well, its a eerie yet still fun as fuck sounding. A warm inviting brutal to the area of yelling…they make you want to remember the lyrics just to feel the emotion while they groove.

The guitars sound so technical, but not too over the top, and they sound fucking BEEFIER THAN A DOUBLE BEEFY CHEESE BURRITO FROM TACO BELL. SO fucking sick. Its a sound that only they can pull off. Controlled images of pure contortion portray in my head when I listen to them.

Another personal favorite of mine is Citadel, the intro drums sound like they are collapsing my lungs, its kinda hard to breathe when I hear it…it makes me wanna tear my eyes out, letting all my vision be blinded just so I can get enough of the sounds. It has such an organized sound of havoc, and again, knowing they are a local band from the area I live always makes my nips a tad bit harder.

I remember there was a time when I worked at the corrupted as fuck shitty as hell Sam’s Club in the tire department, I was pulling a vehicle in, and to my surprise I saw a Kingmaker demo parched upon the passenger seat, I then proceeded to sit in awe and listen while i pretend to work. Sick as fuck then, and still sick as fuck now. Its just really fun music that makes me want to move, and move as in sit around and self-head bang while I enjoy the tunes.

This band deserves my childhood sign, if they like it or not, these dudes will be sick as fuck, and in my honest opinion, they deserve to be known. My opinion may not matter, but I am sure there are plenty of people who wind up lighting the torch of glory to these dudes night after night. I enjoy very, very much.

WHY I PREFER THE CHEAP GENERIC BRANDS OF MACARONI AND CHEESE.

Have you ever been lost in the grocery store with very little money you are able to spend, and a stomach so hungry you could literally indulge on pieces of paper you found laying, restless and used, on the floor? Well look no further than generic macaroni and cheese, the simply magnificent treat, at a steal of price, as low as FIFTY CENTS PER BOX, you scarf down a full containment device of one of these, and hohoho lemme tell ya, your yella belly will be more satisfied than finding a phat stack of cash laying on the side of a busy road(not really but kinda)

The taste of the cheaper stuff really overwhelms me, you can taste the lack of care in the cheese, but you know…Id rather have this and be nice and full, than a grubby ass candy bar, leaving your stomach in knots, dying for more.

I dont see what the fuss is with Kraft’s mac and cheese, like on a real level, I think its garbage. I used to work at Jewel Osco and I would always see people wasting a buck fifty on this waste of a product, why not but the cheaper stuff, that has the same amount, and basically exactly the same taste? Its not like they sprinkle magic happy fuck dust on it. Its more of a, “hey I’m a sucker to labels, I need to have to top of the line mac and cheese because people will think I’m a douche bag because I save money ON THE SAME THING GOING WITH THE CHEAPER GENERIC ONES”

Hell this stuff is actually pretty good, it just tastes like success….knowing I got the whole product for only fifty cents is also something to smile about. Its a better deal than waiting around till Jimmy Johns closes and jumping in the dumpster to snag old bread..

My rating of generic boxed mac and cheese blows up any other levels or rating, well not really…i give it a solid 9/10 because it is awesome..

how can you say this is not classy?««<

THINGS I CANT STAND. AND THIS IS THE TROOF.

these things are on the utmost levels of totally not sick in my books. again this is only my opinion, do NOT take anything I say personally because I too have my stiff moments, especially with these few things…

LIKE FOR LIKE BANDS? like what the fuck is the point of doing that…if people aren’t listening to your music…yeah you have 2000 “fans” but 200 plays? WHATS UP WITH THAT? What happened to playing music for the music, why do you gotta be trying to get a bunch of little kids clicking like to look like they are helping the scene? No, its just another sorry excuse of pricks trying to sell the image….I DO COMPLETELY AGREE WITH BANDS WHO DO THE TAG TUESDAY STUFF BECUASE 99% OF THE TIME IT IS A SICK BAND THAT I CAN ACTUALLY DIG. WHICH IS FUCKING AWESOME BECAUSE I HATE LOOKING AT THE BUNK ASS BANDS I SEE ON THE LIKES FOR BANDS PAGES. ALSO WHEN BAND MEMBERS PROMOTE THEIR STUFF ON A MORE PERSONAL LEVEL, IT JUST SEEMS SO MUCH MORE REAL, AND IT SHOWS DEDICATION WHICH I THINK IS SICK…although, I cannot lie, I have heard a few that are actually sick and I would totally allow them to play a show in my house if they ever wanted to.

CHEESE WIZ FROM DOLLAR GENERAL. I FUCKING KNOW THOSE PUTRID ASS, COBWEB INFESTED, DISEASE RIDDEN BOTTLES OF NASTY FUCKING GRIMY ASS FILTH HAVE BEEN SITTING THERE FOR DECADES. But I still seem to be the sorry sap that must have it.

PEOPLE WHO CANT ACCEPT WHAT OTHERS DO WITH THEIR LIVES. Yeah its nice to have a firm opinion against something, but don’t blow that shit up and try to make the person feel like they are doing something wrong. I’ve been seeing more and more cases of people being shunned(not literally)(but sometimes)because of what they are trying to do with their lives. Let them be who they want.

And LASTLY of things I don’t think are sick….the dreaded stiff…and my definitions of a stiff is basically someone who is so fixed on something so ridiculously shallow and closed minded that they completely ignore your existence because they think you are some kind of a lesser human than them….yeah okay, I forgot some people were born sucking the life out of everyone like fun zombies.

MY VIEWS ON A GOOD MAN NAMED GREG HENKIN, THE MASTER OF GREG’S GUITAR LESSONS.

GREG’S GUITAR LESSONS^^^^

EVERYTHING THIS MAN DOES IS AMAZING, he is an inspiration to many, a great musician, and a man who knows how things work. I am not a student of his, but a close friend has been working with him for a while, I consider him a inspiration as well, just from the words I have heard this man speak. The brutal truth on sound waves.

  • The way he works with people, on a more personal level really makes me appreciate this man, he knows what is best, and what should be done.
  • He is a genuine dude, although a Cubs fan, I still respect his words that he shares with the youth of music.
  • His knowledge level makes him seem like the “go-to-guru for music and all aspects of a successful musician/band”
  • He will make you want to succeed, its like a plague when you work with him, his words of wisdom will stick with you throughout eternity, spreading like a disease of inspiration.
  • He respects good music, he will tell you bands to listen to that will blow your mind, I know I found out about a bunch of bands he passed on to my friend that I am now hooked on. He knows what is up.
  • He helps with the Oasis in Grayslake, a gorgeous venue with exceptional sound, full of really awesome people, working for a good cause.
  • The way he helps people find deals is also something he doesn’t have to do, but the love of music allows him to do it on the regular, I know every time I see a deal alert I check it out(even though I play no instruments it is still sick to see some cool stuff on the cheap, and I love looking at deals)
  • He will guide you,(but not walk you)to the path of self success, leaving yourself to work hard for your goal, but still being the backbone of technique.

My first impression walking into his area of amplification, I begin to die a little inside, seeing such beautiful pieces of equipment of all kinds on display for me to admire, it is truly breathtaking and I am sure many others feel the same way.

Everything Greg does is nothing but helping people find a passion for music, to find a sense of determination, and to be the best they can. This will follow through outside of playing an instrument. Life lessons of happiness is the best way I can describe his lessons(I have sat through a few, which is enough to feel the power)

Again although I am not a direct student of Greg, I know all that he puts out is something that is glorious enough to be labeled as exceptionally sick in my books.

THIS IS WHAT I THINK OF THE BAND SWORN IN

Sworn In from the Grayslake area, consisting of some solid kids Tyler Dennen who is 17, Chris George the man behind the whole plan at a brittle age of 16 slamming out stuff that will blow your pubes, Zak Gibson 16, Mike Piontek who is 17 and a real spicy bassist, and Gene Kamlyuk at age 20. These are some cool dudes. Now onto the music…a first impression to their new song “No Salvation” basically had my undies in a bunch. A mixture of slam, and fast paced fun in my ears made me giggle. Thinking that a 16 year old is creating these grooves is something to hear, totally sick. Now when I listen to them it gives me a feeling where sometimes I tend to sit on the edge of my seat(in my head this is how it feels) and anticipate whats coming next.

  • Slamming Riffs
  • Sick Drum parts that remind me of walking on fire
  • Vocals that feel like they are corroding the insides of my flesh with brutality
  • Craftsmanship like a sword smith

These are the reasons I would prefer to listen to Sworn In then any other bands like them. They are heavy as fuck, and sound pissed as shit…but I know these dudes are cool. Being able to force the slam of their sound is impressive.

When I first listened to Catharsis I was like holy fuck, that does not sound like their old band at all…it was actually really sick, and on top of that it sounded new…something I haven’t been hearing recently. They are definitely a breath of fresh air in the scene along side with Kingmaker, another really talented band from the area with one of the best guys I have ever met, Nick Clemenson…but back to Sworn in, they are fucking phat as hell, and sick as shit.

I was a little surprised to the song Independence Featuring Chris Lunadari(the vocalist of the previously stated groovy as a motherfucker act Kingmaker) it was soooo fucking sick, and I usually think songs featuring another person are kinda pointless, but this one is not…its really fucking sick and works sooo well, I had to download it.  So heavy and insane…I loved it

On another note, this band is from lame ass Grayslake, I feel like that spices up things because most of the stiff fucks of Grayslake try and hide from slamming. Not Sworn In. I am going to do two different ratings…first one is for Chris George, He is getting a 25/10 for creating all of this, and for his progress in writing music, and his drum parts(they are sick) I remember seeing him play for the first time, realizing he is soooo young, and so talented, it is one of those cases where I begin to think there is a soon to be prodigy coming from the area. And on the band as a whole, im giving them a 25/10, their sounds blend like milk and ice cream, and you can tell they enjoy what they do, and that is most important. I don’t give a fuck how a band sounds, as long as I feel they enjoy it themselves, I know its worth listening to. The patterns this band utilizes would make me think they would throw up from motion sickness, I know I was getting nauseous as shit trying to follow some of their tunes, not in a bad way, a more I don’t understand how they can remember it kind of way.

For shits and giggles, I’m going to say they are one of the few I can actually feel the potential with. I enjoy their music, and you should too…and you can download their shit ON THE MOTHER FUCKING FREE.
